Red Hot Chili Peppers Latest to Support Obama Campaign

President Barack Obama has made some big strides in his quest for reelection over the past couple of days. But he couldn’t have done it without the help of some of his A-list friends.

Many of the biggest names in entertainment have continued to support the president over the past 4 years. It was recently announced that mega-star George Clooney will be hosting a fundraiser to support the Obama campaign. Clooney and girlfriend Stacy Kiebler are also expected to attend the White House Correspondant’s dinner on April 28th along with multiple other celebrities.

But the latest show of support for the Obama campaign comes with a major perk for Obama supporters. The Red Hot Chili Peppers have agreed to put on a free concert for Obama campaign workers in Cleveland this weekend. The rules are simple. Anyone who volunteers for a Northeast Ohio phone bank this week will be eligible for a free ticket to the show, but tickets are limited.

The show is set to take place at the House of Blues on Sunday afternoon reports Cleveland.com.
The Chili Peppers will be in Cleveland on Saturday as they are being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and Museum.

DAY OF HONOR ANNOUNCED FOR U.S. MILITARY

President Obama announced Monday as a Day of Honor for veterans of the Iraqi war. Monday marks the nine-year anniversary of U.S led invasion of Iraq. President Obama took the opportunity to speak out in praise and admiration for the army veterans before honoring the men and women who fought for our country with their own national holiday.

In his own words: “Nine years ago, members of the United States Armed Forces crossed the sands of the Iraq-Kuwait border and began one of the most challenging missions our military has ever known, Demonstrating unshakable fortitude and unwavering commitment to duty, our men and women in uniform served tour after tour, fighting block by block to help the Iraqi people seize the chance for a better future. And on December 18, 2011, their mission came to an end.”

This anniversary marks the first since the U.S. pulled its’ troops out of the region – a fact that served to add to the sense of celebration at the White House. The president continued to promise that this country would continue to serve these brave men and women as well as they have served us through programs, services, etc. Let’s hope he makes good on that promise.

Regardless of your opinion on our involvement in the Iraqi region; the young men and women who risked their lives for our country deserve our honor and respect. Thanks to all who have served!

Flushing Out Budget Problems in New Jersey

In an era of having to manage on extremely tight budgets, city officials in Trenton, the capital city of New Jersey, may have taken matters one step too far.

Budget negotiations fell apart in November 2011 as a result of heated arguments over $42,000 for paper products. The key issue was a budget line quoting a high unit price for hot drink cups. Since November, members of the City Council have been unable to reach a compromise about the paper products expenses, even though the problematic hot drink cups have been removed. As funds have not yet been approved, toilet paper supplies for police stations, fire departments, municipal offices, and the city’s senior centers are dwindling rapidly. According to municipal officials, the last few rolls will be finished by this Friday.

Representatives of the Policemen’s Benevolent Association filed an official complaint with the federal Occupational Safety & Health Administration and the state Public Employees Occupational Safety and Health Program.

Policemen and firefighters have been buying their own toilet paper and submitting requests for reimbursement. City officials, whose offices also are suffering from the toilet paper shortage, hope to be able to come to terms on the budget issue in the coming days.
