Throughout the years, New York City, the great melting pot of humanity, has had its share of folk heroes. It’s hard to say exactly what captures the imagination of New Yorkers. But, every now and then, someone comes along and, often through one small act or gesture of kindness, a new hero is born.
New York City is proud to embrace its very own new superhero – Snackman.
Just as his predecessors have helped citizens in distress, so, too, has Snackman provided aid to fellow citizens in trouble. Some have used physical strength while others have resorted to battles of intellect. Snackman used only his bravery and a can of cheddar Pringles.
The story began on an uptown subway train on a Thursday night in late March. Charles Sonder, a 24-year-old Brooklyn architect, was travelling with a buddy to meet friends for drinks. He fortified himself for the trip with a can of cheddar Pringles and a bag of Gummi bears.
Somewhere along the route, a fight broke out between a man and a woman. Yelling turned to punches and kicks. When the man kicked the woman, Charles responded. He moved to the door where the man stood and placed himself between the two. He quietly continued munching his Pringles while preventing further fighting between the two passengers. The entire incident was captured on his friend’s Smartphone and later was uploaded to YouTube.
One of the viewers dubbed Charles “Snackman” and more than 1,000,000 hits have already been logged. Snackman has said that he has received several marriage proposals but, for the time being, is remaining a single super-hero at large.
