Man Who Looks Nothing Like George Clooney Wins Lookalike Contest
David Glendon, certainly has the luck of the Irish on his side. The amateur actor from Kilkenny, Ireland, won a trip to the Oscars thanks to coming first in a George Clooney lookalike contest. He beat 782 other entrants and took the top prize despite looking nothing like the Hollywood superstar! The young Irish man, who has red hair and blue eyes, only entered for a laugh but is delighted (and surprised) with his win.
Kilkenny based filmmaker, Gabriel Murray, organized the competition after his company were allocated 4 tickets to the prestigious awards ceremony in March. Some people have been left wondering whether the contest being held in an Irish whiskey bar may have affected the judge’s final decision. One local dared to ask: “What criteria was used? Possibly just that he be male and have hair?” According to the contest organizer other factors, such as demeanor were taken into consideration.
George Clooney, who is up for an Academy Award for his new film The Descendants, actually has family roots in Kilkenny. His great-grandfather, Nicholas Clooney, left Ireland during the Great Famine in 1847 to begin a new life in the USA. Who knows, David and George may not look very much alike but they may share the same family tree after all!
